Option 2: I can work with our bookkeeper at the high school and we can refund you the cost of the smoked chicken. If you ordered the stuff chicken please email me with which option you would like to choose. I apologize for the delay.

There are some hats in the band room however we do not have enough for everyone. Finally, so the band looks uniform, any Santa hat should be a traditional santa hat (Red hat, white trim). As you can see it was an outstanding season for the Marching Troubadours! Thank you to all of the band parents who have donated food, water, and most importantly, their time and support, to the Troubadours this season. This season would not have been the same without your support. Also, thank you to the troubadour leadership team and seniors for your outstanding leadership and guidance. These students did a great job of leading by example and putting the needs of their section and band before their own. Finally a HUGE thank you to every member of the Montevallo Marching Troubadours for such an outstanding season. Since day one of band camp, way back in July, to this past Saturday; the Troubadours have shown up to every rehearsal ready to improve and help their teammates. They have made it such a joy to come to rehearsal each and every day. I speak for Mrs. Cabrera and I both when I say, we are truly blessed to have such outstanding students and parents.

Even though Saturday concludes our competitive marching season, the Troubadours will continue as ambassadors for the Montevallo community and Montevallo high school throughout football season. This week we will start limited rehearsals, which will continue for the remainder of the season. Troubadours rehearsal will now be only on Thursday from 3:15 - 5:15pm. Since the Troubadours only rehearse one day a week, it is critical that every member is at each rehearsal. Here are the announcements for the week:

  • The Troubadours will start limited rehearsals this week. Rehearsal for the remainder of the season will be only on Thursdays from 3:15 - 5:15pm.

New Attendance Policy

Parents and Students,
As of today the attendance policy for the Montevallo Troubadours has changed. A revised version of the policy was sent home with your child, and also is posted this update.  This policy should be signed and returned. The policy was changed to better accommodate Troubadours and their parents when dealing with illness. From now on students can turn in up to three parent notes if they are absent from rehearsal do to illness. After the third note students will be asked to turn in a doctors note for any further absences. Please note that this change only affects rehearsal not performances. If a student is absent from a performance they will need to supply a medical note. I hope this new policy will alleviate some pressure when someone is ill. Please keep in mind that attending all Troubadour rehearsals are crucial and missing rehearsal should never be taken lightly. Please let me know if you need any clarification. Here is the new policy: New Attendance Policy.

Outstanding Band Camp!!!

Parents and Students,
Band Camp is officially finished! Thanks to all those who helped make it such a great success! The Troubadours were able to put the entire show on the field today. Despite blistering heat and rain, the band, in just 5 short days, learned 50 pages of drill. This is an outstanding achievement, a feat not very many programs will accomplish during camp. As promised, here is a video of the Troubadours marching a portion of the show.
Our first performance, Friday August 19th, cannot get here soon enough! I hope everyone enjoys their well deserved rest, and I will see the Troubadours next Wednesday to start cleaning and improving the show!

New Director at Montevallo High School

Dear Parents and Students,
My name is James Rogers, and I am the new Director of Bands at Montevallo High School.  I am a graduate of Auburn University where I studied underneath Dr. Rick Good, Adam Spurlin, and Matthew Wood. I have worked with many great band programs around the state including bands in Opelika, Auburn, Smith Station, Mountain Brook, and was a section leader in the Auburn University Marching Band. For the past four years I have worked at Childersburg High School, where I have enjoyed rebuilding the band program. While I was at Childersburg, the program doubled in size and developed a high level of musicianship. My wife and I live in the Birmingham area with our 3 year old lab mix, Indiana. Rebecca is a music teacher at Lincoln Elementary. We enjoy spending time with our nieces, and spend a lot of our free time outdoors.
I really look forward to this coming fall and starting the new school year. I have heard many great things about the Montevallo band program and look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence that Mr. Lawley established, as well as facilitating growth and more exposure for the program. My hope is to start working towards building not only a great band, but strong musicians and responsible students.  With the support of the MHS staff and you, the parents, the Montevallo Band program has a great future ahead of it.
There is a lot that needs to be accomplished in a short amount of time to prepare for next year’s band, and please be on the lookout for information about the upcoming season. First and foremost the band camp dates distributed by Mr. Lawley in February will not change. Here is a copy of those dates 2016 Band Camp Dates. Also I would like to welcome everyone to the band room next Tuesday, June 21st between 6:00pm-7:00pm as an opportunity for me to meet the members of the band and their parents. There will be some refreshments. Finally, attached to this email are links to two online forms. The first form is for parents and students; it is a contact information form. This form will replace the typical student information form passed-out at the beginning of band camp. One form should be completed for each students in band. The second form is a “getting to know you” form and should be filled out by the students.
I can’t wait to get started with this year’s band, and I look forward to seeing what all we can accomplish. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions: my email address is JRogers@shelbyed.org. I look forward to meeting all of you next Tuesday, and I hope you have a great summer!
