Practice Logs/Playing Test - a.k.a. I didn't do my work and I do not want to fail.

A lot of students have come to me asking about band grades. A lot of band grades are not where they need to be because students have neglected to do the work. The playing test and practice logs are both there for a reason, and doing these things will benefit the band in the long run by making us all better musicians.

That being said, grades are important. Any student who has not turned in a playing test can still submit it, either through charms, email, or in person after school/rehearsal, but it will have points docked for being late. All playing test must be made up before Sunday night.

For practice logs, even though the point of a practice log is to make sure you are consistently practicing, this is something the band is not used to and has taken some time to adjust to. To help out with this, any practice time during this week past the normal 100 minutes students need for this week will be applied to past practice logs to help bring their grades up. Since this is competition week, extra practice definitely isn't a bad thing. Starting next week, we will start a new 9 weeks and NO FUTURE PRACTICE LOGS CAN BE MADE UP. This first nine weeks was a trail run, but now that we see how easily it can affect our grades, I hope this will encourage students to practice and keep up with their practice habits in the future. Remember, we do this because consistent practicing is the only way for the band to increase our musical abilities. What we do during class time is not enough, especially now that we are in concert season. If any student is having issues with practice logs on the charms app, I can print out a paper version that students will have to keep up with and turn in every Monday. Please let me know if you need that option.

Thursday - MMS Homecoming

We will have our normal rehearsal until 4:30, then we will take a break and get ready to march over to the stadium at 5:15. Kickoff is at 6:00, and we will be staying for the entire game. We will send out a remind when the game has ended. Our uniform for the game will be show shirt and khaki pants, the same as the homecoming parade and Troy Band Day.
